Designing Faraday Future’s In-Car UI/UX.
Project Overview
02
●
Faraday Future needed to redesign the in-car experience for its flagship EV, the FF91. The goal was to leverage a sophisticated tech stack to create a user-centered, scalable custom HMI that provides ‘at-home’ comfort within the vehicle.

Design Solutions
Center Instrument Display (CID)
This central screen integrates native and third-party apps. The primary challenge was to build a simple experience for a complex system, maintaining user-friendliness and a rich feature set.
Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
A driver-focused screen showing critical driving info, including ADAS features. I collaborated with engineering to ensure clear and functional data presentation on a compact display.
Passenger Experience (PAX)
The TV experience needed a tailored approach shaping a intuitive in-car experience for passengers. I collaborated with the overseas PM and design team in Beijing to define the widget experience, build a third-party streaming platform, deliver native apps, and establish AI features such as video descriptions, contextual assistance, and NLP conversational AI that can provide a help menu at all times.
Door Panel Display (DPD)
Each door features its own control screen with Voice AI, seat, and TV controls. I collaborated with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and a cohesive user experience.
B-Pillar Display (BPD)
The coach doors use a specialized control system. I designed the B-Pillar Display experience to support this functionality and allow for future integrations
Design Process
01
Product Feature Discovery
Through workshops exploring "what if" scenarios, following design trends, and conducting user interviews, we identified pain points, feature ideas, and key challenges. I led collaborative team exercises to brainstorm and refine feature sets for each screen, addressing user feedback and insights throughout the process.
02
User Interviews
I collaborated with our PM to research user interactions with the in-car experience and individual screens. We conducted interviews with co-creators and early adopters of the FF91 to uncover pain points and gain a deeper understanding of usage patterns.
03
User Flows
I created and guided user and feature flows for all screens, integrating new functionalities to ensure a smooth experience while aligning with unique requirements, user needs, and insights.
04
Prototyping and Testing
I sketched new flows, systems, and features within the existing design framework, enabling rapid idea visualization and refinement for innovative, user-friendly enhancements.
I leveraged analytics to inform decisions, establish screen consistency, and define zones for multi-window behavior and persistent elements.
In collaboration with the engineering team, we have consistently tested features in the vehicles, incorporating physical and real-world experiences using Production Intent Vehicles for:
→ On-road user testing
→ Internal feature exploration and validation
→ Benchmarking competitor experiences
→ Leveraging a feedback loop
→ Prototyping on existing hardware
05
Continued Design Iteration
Design iterations were guided by user feedback, self-testing, and stakeholder input, ensuring features evolved to meet user needs and align with stakeholder expectations. We have performed A/B testing on the design performance to ensure improvements.
Project Impact
I was instrumental in developing a comprehensive design framework and implementing a cohesive design system, delivering a complete end-to-end user experience. This strategic approach increased user satisfaction by over 40% and led to a 43% growth in digital product offerings, effectively positioning the company for successful product diversification.
